Dear Representative,

I am writing to urge you to support national service by fully funding AmeriCorps and its work across the country. I am the Founder and CEO of Up2Us Sports. Our organization recruits, trains and supports young adults to be coaches and mentors for kids in underserved communities. The mission of our organization is to use youth sports to help kids achieve their fullest potential.

As you probably know, too many children in most states don’t have the opportunity to partake in youth sports programming, which offers many physical, social, and emotional benefits and opportunities to develop life skills. We are changing this from coast to coast by providing youth with trained AmeriCorps coaches who engage them in sports programming every day in safe settings where they are able to learn and thrive.

I can think of nothing more bipartisan than what we do across America: give every child in this country the opportunity to play, learn, and succeed.

On behalf of every child served by our corps of 5,000+ AmeriCorps service members throughout this past decade, I urge you: please fund AmeriCorps. Every dollar we receive from this federal government is matched by at least two dollars in private donations. The difference we make is arguably the most cost-effective example of government dollars in action. And while this multiplier effect is easily measured financially, you can never fully measure the difference it makes for a child to wake up in your state and say, “I have a coach who cares about me and wants me to succeed.”
