The Miami HEAT honored Up2Us Sports coach Derrick “Dee” Britt as the Home Strong Hero of the Night on Monday, May 8, 2023. Coach Dee was honored before the start of the game, which ended in the HEAT beating the New York Knicks in game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Coach Dee has been serving with Up2Us Sports for nearly four years and has been a consistent father figure for the young men of the Liberty City community for far longer. With so many people looking for ways out of this neighborhood, it is truly inspiring to see Coach Dee dedicated to his community and the young men growing up there. It is Coach Dee's goal to be a resource and a guiding voice for the many young men in his community that do not have a father figure. He, along with many other coaches at Belafonte TACOLCY Center, serve to encourage and instruct their youth by being a constant in their life.
