Our Up2Us Sports Coach and VISTA teams spent Monday, September 12, 2022 honoring and remembering those lost and those impacted by the attacks of September 11, 2001.
The Up2Us Coach team joined AmeriCorps’ September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, New York Cares, and other participating organizations at the Intrepid Museum to pack over 400,000 meals that will be distributed to food insecure families throughout New York City. Our team supported the event by welcoming and registering meal pack volunteers, providing directions throughout the site, and worked on the meal pack floor to refill supplies, keep the area clean, and lift boxes.
The Up2Us Sports VISTA 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance was held on Monday, September 12th, 2022. During this Zoom gathering attendees, along with the Up2Us VISTA team, took the time to pause and reflect on the theme "unity through service" in honor and remembrance of the 21st anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001. After a two minute moment of silence, everyone reflected on how the events of the fateful day in 2001 have impacted their lives over the years. Feelings of hope, unity, resilience and strength were highlighted as the similarity between the Survivor Tree (one of the many amazing tributes erected at Ground Zero) and the Up2Us Sports' community-based mission were discussed. The Up2Us Sports VISTA team invited everyone to take on the Unity Through Service Movement Challenge: the 110 floors of the first tower on 9/11 signifies roughly 2,000 steps and those steps in turn represent approximately one mile. This event was planned by Up2Us Sports VISTA Leader, Twylah Campbell.
