Up2Us Sports partners with parks and recreation departments around the country to provide comprehensive training in positive youth development. From the park leaders to the frontline staff, Up2Us Sports training helps parks and recreation staff become more effective in their work with local youth. Read on to see how we are bringing Up2Us Sports training to parks all over the country. Miami
Up2Us Sports has partnered with the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department since 2015 to provide training and professional development opportunities for park managers and frontline staff. Jose Martí Park is the home of the Miami Institute, and 15 park managers attended the 2015 Coach Training Institute. In May 2016 Up2Us Sports trained 300 summer camp staff members in Building Positive Program Culture. Up2Us Sports has also trained members of the City of Miami Gardens Parks and Recreation Department through our partnership with the Miami Marlins.
Chicago
Members of the Chicago Parks Department team first attended the Coach Training Institute in February 2015. After that initial touchpoint, we have worked with them to engage other parts of CPD, culminating in the Nike Summer Swoosh Academy – where we trained 240 park leaders and 1500 summer camp recreation leaders – in June 2016.
New Orleans
The New Orleans Recreation Department Commission (NORDC) has been a partner of Up2Us Sports since we launched in the city. Between placing CAA coaches and offering professional development, we have engaged a variety of different NORDC stakeholders, in addition to hosting events at NORDC facilities. In June 2016 we will train managers and lead coaches from 35 NORDC parks in Level 1 Sports-Based Youth Development Coaching content.
Philadelphia
Our partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation is in its initial stages but growing quickly. After introductory meetings in the winter of 2015, we had 8 PPR leaders in attendance at the June 2016 Coach Training Institute. We are looking to expand this partnership in 2016-17.
Hartford
The City of Hartford Department of Families, Children, Youth, and Recreation contracted Up2Us Sports in the fall of 2015 to provide comprehensive support in trauma-sensitive coaching and program design for all municipal youth-serving organizations. Thus far we have certified an initial coach cohort through Level 2 SBYD Coach content, and are continuing to work with the city to broaden our scope to include program leadership, local government, and other stakeholders.
