Established in 2010, Up2Us Sports is a national nonprofit dedicated to using the power of sports and highly trained coaches to reduce violence, promote health and inspire academic success for our nation’s most vulnerable youth. Up2Us Sports’ research, training and on-the-ground initiatives empower sports programs across the country to become a united force for meaningful change. Up2Us Sports’ signature Coach Across America (CAA) program places and trains the nation’s best and brightest role models to bring sports-based youth development to the most underserved communities. Up2Us Sports coaches understand that every program session, practice or game is a chance to positively impact a child’s future. To date, Up2Us Sports has reached more than 284,000 youth by placing 1,864 coaches in underserved urban communities.


Position Description

The Journalism Intern will be responsible for supporting the Marketing Department in producing and editing written content. The position would involve helping to tell the rich and compelling stories of Up2Us Sports coaches, Up2Us Sports member programs and the youth they serve to effectively communicate the impact of Up2Us Sports programs across multiple platforms. The position is intended for an individual interested in the sports-based youth development movement. Up2Us Sports provides a dynamic and flexible work environment comprised of a team of professionals dedicated to supporting underserved youth through sports. This is a non-paying position, and is based in New York City. The intern position can be for college credit, but is not required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Marketing Department staff
  • Conduct interviews with coaches, member programs, youth and others
  • Transcribe audio interviews
  • Write stories based on interviews to be shared across multiple platforms
  • Assist with creating content for Up2Us Sports website, blog, social media channels, funder reports, etc.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience in conducting interviews preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of organization
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and Google Apps (Drive, Calendar, Gmail, etc.)
  • A firm belief in the power of sports and coaching to inspire our nation’s youth
  • A strong work ethic and desire to learn
